Kaya Cameron

Grenada / USA

Kaya is a very strong willed person. After spending three years in the community Viroqua, Wisconsin, many years on the beautiful island of Grenada, and the fast paced city of NYC, she realized her deep passion was making a change. She is working on developing a system of exchange that can be implemented into medical care, which helps to make it more accessible and affordable.

A bit about Kaya

After living and attending school in Grenada for two years, she realized the education system did not support her style of learning, and as a result, she wanted to return to the U.S. to continue her education. Since her mother couldn’t return with her at that point in time, it was critical to find a school that could provide safe and reliable boarding arrangements, which is how she found Youth Initiative High School (YIHS), which is nestled in the tiny town of Viroqua Wisconsin. She began YIHS as a Sophomore and spent three metamorphic years living in Viroqua with a host family. She was introduced to Watson through Ashoka and a fellow schoolmate who also currently attends Watson.

At Watson, she hopes to develop a program that can be implemented into communities globally, to support the separation of overpriced health care, as well as to create an awareness of the value that society places on money, and to influence a new perspective of how our society can better thrive without those values creating barriers to access of much needed basic human rights services.
