Calling all changemakers and entrepreneurs!
The Watson Institute Basecamp at University of Pittsburgh at Bradford is a one-of-a-kind, weekend-long experience that brings students and community leaders together to imagine solutions to some of our region’s most pressing problems. Students will dive into the heart of entrepreneurship and fully immerse in the Watson Institute experience. During the Basecamp, students will:
- Work together to understand problems and design solutions
- Discover entrepreneurship as a career
- Learn about rapid prototyping and building business models
- Engage with a broader community of mentors and champions
- Pitch their ideas to a panel of community leaders
Each participant of the winning team will receive a $150 gift card.
Principles of Launching a Business
In partnership with Halloran Philanthropies, this 3-day program is open to students of all academic majors and interests. Previous entrepreneurship or business knowledge is not required to participate. Participants are eager to learn the principles of launching a social impact business. They are motivated to solve social or environmental problems facing their communities.
Basecamp programming trains participants in utilizing business principles to define problems and design solutions effectively.
Each student meets mentors who offer feedback to challenge their assumptions and enhance their perspective.
Basecamp participants build community as they learn and work alongside each other.
Friday, October 21st
Get into groups and perform a deep dive on the greatest challenges facing their community, perform Root Cause Analysis and practice Rapid Prototyping.
Saturday, October 22nd
Engage in Business Modeling 101 and the Anatomy of a Pitch. Teams will go off-campus to conduct Adventure Interviews with local business leaders and participate in a Mentorship Roundtable. The day will end with a session with Kamron Khodjaev, the Co-founder and Chief Commercial Officer of Koop and Pitt-Bradford Alum.
Sunday, October 23rd
Learn about entrepreneurship as a career and participate in an intimate fireside chat about Bradford’s entrepreneurial ecosystem between Executive Director of the Bradford Area Alliance, Carolyn Newhouse, and Executive Director of Halloran Philanthropies, Brian Halloran. Finish the weekend with pitch presentations to a panel of judges and a certificate ceremony.

This Watson Basecamp is hosted at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford in Bradford, Pennsylvania. Pitt-Bradford is a residential college, with most students living on campus in one of the fourteen residence halls. UPB has over 60 student clubs and organizations, several fraternities and sororities, and numerous intramural sports leagues.
