Watson Basecamp at Pitt Bradford

An intensive bootcamp for aspiring young innovators and entrepreneurs taking place at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford.

This program takes place on Friday, October 22nd – Sunday, October 24th

Applications will launch on Monday, July 5th.

The trek to the summit begins at Basecamp.

Watson Institute Basecamps are short, intensive programs for students passionate about solving social, environmental, and economic challenges. They include the training, mentorship, and community building that are pillars of the Watson Institute experience.

During the Basecamp at Pitt-Bradford, students will work together to understand problems, design solutions, receive mentorship, and pitch their ideas to a panel of community leaders. The winning team will earn flight to Boulder, Colorado, to visit the Watson Institute’s Colorado campus.

Participants will also be fully immersed in the Watson experience. They’ll have the opportunity to meet and collaborate with peers and engage with a broader community of mentors and champions.

Basecamp programming trains participants in using Design Thinking to effectively define problems and design solutions.

Each student meets mentors who offer feedback to challenge their assumptions and enhance their perspective.

Basecamp participants build community as they learn and work alongside each other.

First day
Participants get into groups and perform a deep dive on the greatest challenges facing their community using the framework of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, root cause analysis, and a debate between the groups.

Second Day
On the second day, participants take on the challenges they identified and design, test, and create prototype solutions for them. They also meet with entrepreneurs and local leaders for mentorship sessions and end the day with a Master Course from an established entrepreneur.

Third Day
On the last day of the program, students put together presentations based on their progress on the previous days and pitch their project idea to a panel of experts.
